Vogel dedicates Vol. III to the University of Erlangen (Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg) on the occasion of its 150th anniversary, celebrated on 1 August 1893. The university was founded in 1743 by Margrave Friedrich of Brandenburg-Bayreuth and named after him and Margrave Alexander. Vogel identifies himself as 'quondam alumnus' — a former student — of the 'alma mater Friderico-Alexandrinae.' The dedication from Nuremberg (not Erlangen) suggests Vogel was working at the Gymnasium in Nuremberg at this time. Contrast with Vol. II (1890), which had no such festive dedication — Vol. III clearly arrives at a moment of institutional celebration.
