B. G. TEUBNER

The publishing house of Benedictus Gotthelf Teubner, founded in Leipzig in 1811, became the most important publisher of classical texts in the 19th century. The 'Bibliotheca Scriptorum Graecorum et Romanorum Teubneriana' — the Teubner series — remains the standard critical edition for hundreds of Greek and Latin authors. Leipzig's status as the capital of the German book trade made it the natural home for this enterprise.
