Volume III of Vogel's Teubner edition contains Diodorus' Books XIII–XV, covering the years 415–361 BC. This is perhaps the most dramatically rich section of the entire Bibliotheca: it encompasses the Athenian catastrophe at Syracuse (413 BC), the rise of Dionysius I as tyrant of Syracuse, the Carthaginian invasions of Sicily, the fall of Athens (404 BC), the March of the Ten Thousand (401–399 BC), the Gallic sack of Rome (390 BC), and the Theban hegemony under Epaminondas culminating in the Battle of Mantinea (362 BC). For ARETHE's Sicilian focus, Books XIII–XIV are absolutely central: they contain the most detailed surviving narrative of Dionysius I's regime and the destruction of major Sicilian cities (Selinus, Himera, Agrigentum, Gela, Motya).
